Kastraki near Meteora, Trikala, Greece |

Kastraki is a hamlet on the northern side of Kalampaka, with a road leading from it through the centre of the Meteora rocks to the monasteries. The road through a ravine between Kalampaka and Kastraki passes some of the monasteries built into caves high up the sides of the mountains. Access to these was by ladder or rope. We obtained only a fleeting impression of Kastraki as we drove through it. The only memory that we have of it, is of signs for rooms, hotels, camping and places to eat, jostling with each other for exposure, but I'm sure that it has much more to offer.
